Volunteer Service Manager

Job Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for the overall planning, development, and implementation of Community Blood Center’s volunteer services program. Strengthens Community Blood Center’s delivery of service by managing volunteer activities in support of CBC’s mission. Directs the day-to-day operations and administration of volunteer activities. Works with departments to understand and support their activities through the recruitment and placement of volunteers. Recruits and trains qualified volunteers to provide services to CBC departments and donors.

Essential Functions:

• Manages the day-to-day operations of CBC’s volunteer services program.

• Works with applicable staff to develop and implement policies and procedures, training programs, measurement tools, and reporting mechanisms for volunteer functions in accordance with quality standards.

• Recruits and places qualified volunteers to support CBC department needs.

• Manages the schedule of volunteers at fixed sites and mobile drives.

• Creates, implements, and updates volunteer orientation programs that ensure safe, effective practices are in place for volunteers.

• Develops a training program that ensures all volunteers are adequately trained for their placement and is in compliance with quality standards.

• Develops budget and reporting mechanisms to ensure that resources are effectively utilized and organizational guidelines are achieved.

• Implements quality volunteer recruiting processes that meet the needs of the organization in a cost effective manner.

• Works with applicable staff to create volunteer position descriptions, performance standards, and competency assessments and implements a procedure to ensure they are current and complete.

• Recruits adequate numbers of volunteers to meet the needs of departments. Works with management to ensure volunteer assignments meet the needs of departments and volunteers. Resolves issues that may arise with the volunteer placement.

• Effectively communicates and builds positive relationships with volunteers and those they serve.

• Works with employees to coach and mentor volunteers, ensuring reasonable treatment of volunteers.

• Develops and cultivates positive relationships with business partners in the community building goodwill for the organization and encouraging volunteer participation.

• Plans and implements special recognition events to acknowledge the contributions of volunteers to CBC.

• Represents CBC and the department at designated meetings.

• Maintains required records, reports, and files as required by laws and internal procedures.

• Participates in professional activities in the field of volunteer management.

• Upholds quality, confidentiality, and philosophy of Community Blood Center.

• Exemplifies CBC’’s Customer Service Mission and Core Values.

Job Qualifications:
Education & Experience:


• Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Public Administration, Communications, or appropriate field preferred, or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Must provide a copy of the transcript


• Experience working a field providing customer service required.

• Experience in coordination/supervision of volunteers preferred.

• Experience working for a blood center preferred.

• Previous experience serving as a volunteer preferred.

Skills and Knowledge:


• Knowledge of a variety of software applications (Microsoft Office Suite).

Skills & Abilities:

• Strong interpersonal, public relations and customer service skills.

• Ability to work independently with diverse groups of volunteers and employees.

• Ability to recruit and motivate people to become dedicated volunteers and act in the best interest of the organization.

• Ability to coordinate and manage activities of numerous volunteers in varied settings.

• Excellent organizational, time management and problem solving skills.

• Effective verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking ability.
